This week was filled with conference rivalries and one very intense district game! I started off in Snake River, then found myself in Marsh Valley, and finally ended the week at the Snake Pit in Century! I had a lot of fun this week and captured some awesome pictures! I hope you enjoy this post. Please comment and share. Thank you.
Now, let's recap:
Marsh Valley vs Snake River Boys Basketball - growing up in American Falls I understand the heated rivalry between the 5th District 3A schools. Wednesday night one rivalry was alive and well as the Marsh Valley Eagles traveled to Thomas to take on the Snake River Panthers. With two weeks left in the season and number spot as the prize these two teams duked it out for 4 intense quarters of physical basketball. Snake River was led by Senior Klay Keller who led all scorers with 17 points. It was a back and forth game with high emotions, which will spill over to next Friday's game (2/13) when Snake River travels to Marsh Valley. Plus these two teams will also be positioning for a berth to the 3A state tournament the week after that game. Keep your eye on these two teams the next couple weeks.
Snake River vs Marsh Valley Girls Basketball - 5th District 3A District games are always packed with great emotion and intensity. This game was so much fun to watch as the Eagles build a lead going into the 4th quarter of play, but the Panthers were not going down without a fight. They clawed back into the game with timely shooting and tough defense. With 6 seconds left in the Senior Ivy Goff hit an 18 ft jump shot to give her team a one point lead! However, her heroics were quickly cast aside by Senior Faith Lolofie as she tossed in the game winner as time expired! Her shot sent the Eagles to the district championship game and got them one win closer to returning to the 3A Girls State Tournament.
Pocatello vs Century Boys Basketball - Wow!!! These two teams fought and played an amazing game Friday night in front of a packed house in the Snake Pit. Unfortunately for the Pocatello Indians the Diamondbacks had 3 starters post double-doubles (Malek Harwell, Chase Rowe, and Leo Behrend). With that kind of fire power, the Diamondbacks are a serious threat in the 4A 5-6th District. In fact, in the last 2 weeks Century beat Rigby, ranked 5th in the state, and Preston who is ranked 1st in the state. With one week left in the regular season I would recommend watching this district closely as final seeds are established. We are in for a lot of great basketball in the next couple weeks!
